The 2024-2025 school year marked the launch of Sport Sprouts. We piloted the program at North Davis Elementary, starting with soccer, where high school volunteers led lessons that focused on building fundamental skills. The success of the North Davis soccer program inspired us to expand to Cesar Chavez Elementary, also ofering soccer, and to Willett Elementary, where we introduced a multi-sport program including soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Over the course of 5 months, Sport Sprouts engaged over 60 participants and relied on the dedication of more than 10 volunteer high school students.
2025-2026
The 2025–26 school year began with a more structured and expanded version of Sport Sprouts. Our previous success in the past year allowed us to further expand our club to five additional elementary schools: Pioneer, Birch Lane, Montgomery, Patwin, and Korematsu. Meanwhile, we continued our multi-sport program featuring soccer, basketball, and volleyball, with each sport rotating every three weeks at each site. Throughout the 2025–26 season, spanning over nine months, Sport Sprouts successfully engaged more than 90 participants and received a club grant to further expand and strengthen the program.
“The moment I value most is when students who initially disliked sports suddenly lean forward, engage, and actively participate in our activities.” — William Meng, Volunteer
